It all began when my husband joined the military in 2012, and I needed something to keep my mind occupied during his long deployments. When my husband first left for boot camp and training, I found myself feeling lost and uncertain. With three kids to take care of, I needed a way to channel my energy and create a cozy home for my family. That’s when I decided to transform our plain condo into a space that would reflect our style and make it a warm haven for when my husband returned.
Discovering My Creative Flair
Starting with the living room, I tackled the challenge of revamping our mahogany furniture. Armed with spray paint and a desire to modernize, I transformed our sofa, table, and end tables into sleek black pieces. This simple project sparked a fire within me, and I realized that I had a knack for DIY and custom furniture.
Surprising Transformations
My daughter’s birthday became an opportunity for me to surprise her with a bedroom makeover. We treated her birthday like a baby shower, and her friends gifted her items she had registered for. It was a joy to put together a room that reflected her personality and made her feel special. Encouraged by this success, I continued with more transformations, including my other children’s shared bedroom and finally, my own sanctuary, the master bedroom.

With my husband deployed and our communication limited to phone calls and pictures, I delved deeper into my newfound passion. I learned to barbecue, embraced the challenges of assembling Ikea furniture (despite our love-hate relationship), and expanded my skills beyond furniture to encompass all aspects of our lifestyle. Each project became a testament to my determination and creativity.

As my talent for custom furniture grew, my husband and I decided it was time to find our dream home. I saw this as an opportunity to create on a larger scale, transforming a plain house into a beautiful sanctuary that reflected our style. From painting cabinets to installing new flooring, I tackled numerous projects with enthusiasm. Even though my husband was away, I surprised him with the incredible transformations upon his return.
